Philip Broberg Signs HUGE 6-Year Deal with the St. Louis Blues! | NHL News (2026)

In a significant move for the St. Louis Blues, defenseman Philip Broberg has inked a six-year contract worth $48 million, which translates to an average annual value of $8 million. This deal will commence in the upcoming season, marking a notable investment in the young player’s future.

At just 24 years old, Broberg is currently amidst his second season with the Blues, where he has contributed 14 points—comprising two goals and 12 assists—over 44 games. His journey with the Blues began after a two-year contract worth $9.16 million ($4.58 million AAV) was signed on August 20, 2024, following the Edmonton Oilers’ decision not to match a competing offer sheet from the Blues submitted on August 13. Had things gone differently, Broberg could have entered restricted free agency at the end of this season.

Blues general manager Doug Armstrong expressed enthusiasm about retaining Broberg for not just this season but also for six additional years that align with what many consider the peak performance years for an athlete. "He’s been one of the few shining stars in what has otherwise been a disappointing season for us," Armstrong remarked. "We see him as a foundational player on our defensive lineup that we can build around moving forward."

Last season was particularly fruitful for Broberg, as he achieved personal bests across various categories including games played (68), goals scored (eight), assists (21), total points (29), plus-minus rating (plus-21), and shots on goal (97).

Armstrong noted Broberg’s versatility in contributing to the team’s penalty kill and five-on-five play, with expectations that he will take on an even more substantial role in the power play as his career progresses. "It’s reassuring to have a cornerstone player like him in our organization. We’ve had productive discussions, and he’s fulfilling his part of the agreement. Now it’s on management to surround him with a competitive team that can achieve success together."

Drafted by the Edmonton Oilers as the eighth overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft, Broberg has accumulated a total of 56 points (12 goals, 44 assists) throughout 194 regular-season games split between the Oilers and the Blues. He has also participated in the playoffs, registering five points (three goals, two assists) over 27 games.

As the Blues attempt to turn their season around with a current record of 17-20-8, they are set to face off against the Vegas Golden Knights this Saturday at 10 p.m. ET.
