10 Top Deep Conditioners For Relaxed Hair (2024)

Deep conditioning is a helpful step in a relaxed hair wash day.

It helps to restore lost moisture in the hair by deeply penetrating the hair shaft.

It can add strength to the hair if it contains protein ingredients.

It also helps add more shine to the hair.

If you’re not deep conditioning currently you, and especially your hair, are missing out.

If you’re now convinced to start deep conditioning or have been for a while and are looking for a good deep conditioner to use on your relaxed hair I’ve got some help for you in this post. I’m going to share 10 top deep conditioners that are good for relaxed hair.

Finding a good deep conditioner and the right deep conditioner for your hair can be hard. There are so many different options, different ingredients, and different names for conditioning products - deep conditioners and hair masks.

Speaking of deep conditioners and hair masks after years of wondering what’s the difference and pretty much calling both deep conditioners I decided to dig into this to see what the difference is between a hair mask and a deep conditioner and to see which is better. I even asked my hairstylist.

What I found was inconclusive. It seems there used to be a clear difference between the two but now brands have blurred the lines.

Because there seem to be many varying thoughts on how deep conditioners and hair masks are different I’m calling them all deep conditioners in the title of this post and will throughout unless the product name has mask in it for simplicity's sake.

That also fits how I approach using them for my hair because I just use what works best for my hair whether it’s called a hair mask or a deep conditioner.

One other note is that most of the deep conditioners I’m talking about are protein-free. I didn’t plan that on purpose but I’ve been mostly sticking to protein-free deep conditioners lately so that could be the reason why.

Of the deep conditioners on this list I’ve tried most of them and I will admit, of the ones I’ve tried some of them I didn’t care for. They are on the list because of two reasons

  1. They are popular because they work for several others in the relaxed hair world
  2. My hair was in a recovery phase from a setback when I tried them and that could have impacted my results

Ok, now to the list which is ranked and in order based on my personal preference. I decided to go this route because I’ve used most of these deep conditioners.

1. TGIN Miracle RepaiRx Deep Hydrating Hair Mask

This is my current favorite hair mask. Which is why it’s at the top of the list. If my hair isn’t feeling itself this is the one that I pull out of the cabinet to use on my hair.

This hair mask claims

  • To restore life to dry, damaged, or color-treated hair
  • To smooth and soften the hair
  • To Improve shine and manageability
  • To lock in moisture and repair damage
  • All while reducing shedding and breakage
  • It has No parabens, sulfates, petrolatum, lanolin, artificial

From my standpoint, I can say that it does all of those things with the exception of shedding. I can’t speak to how it helps with shedding since I don’t have any serious shedding issues and I do green tea rinses weekly to make sure that I don’t.

You can see more about this hair mask and why I like it so much in my full review of it.

2.Camille Rose Naturals Algae Renew Deep Conditioner

I don't recall using any Camille Rose products on my hair but I do follow this brand and have seen several people I also follow use some of the products and give them good reviews. One of those products is the Camille Rose Naturals Algae Renew Deep Conditioner.

What stands out to me is the ingredient list. Water is the best moisturizer and Deionized Water is the first ingredient. It also includes cocoa butter, aloe, green tea leaf extract, and glycerin just to name a few. All of these are good nourishing and moisture-friendly ingredients for relaxed hair.

The two key ingredients look to help provide the hair with moisture and strength. The Blue Green Algae provides the strength and the Mango Butter the moisture.

Knowing what the key ingredients are, it's so surprising this Camille Rose deep conditioner claims to

  • Strengthens hair
  • Preventing thinning
  • Prevent breakage
  • Intensely moisturize
  • Lock and seal in moisture

3. Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Moist Deep Conditioner

This is a really popular deep conditioner in the relaxed hair community. And it’s one of the few popular hair products that lived up to the hype for me. I share more about my experience with this Aussie deep conditioner in this review.

This deep conditioner from Aussie claims to

  • Give 3x the moisture of an ordinary conditioner
  • Help banish dry hair
  • Absorb quickly

From my point of view, the key reasons I like and continue to use this deep conditioner are

  • It has a lot of slip so it’s great to use for detangling
  • It’s got a rich and creamy that my hair loves
  • It’s very affordable and I can sometimes get a coupon to get it for even less
  • My hair always feels soft and moisturized after using it
  • Also, I like that the bottle has a pump!

4. Maui MoistureHeal & Hydrate Shea Butter Hair Mask

This is another brand I haven't used yet but I keep seeing it pop up in my social feeds and chat room conversations about products for relaxed hair.

The description of it sounds really enticing "Creamy shea butter is whipped into this hydrating mask blend along with rich coconut and macadamia oils help deeply quench, nourish, and soften strands to get your hair back to looking healthy."

This Maui Moisture Shea Butter Hair Mask claims

  • It can be used for deep conditioning and as a leave in treatment
  • To leave hair looking and feeling soft and hydrated
  • To moisturize strands and mend split ends

5. Not Your Mother's Naturals Matcha Green Tea & Wild Apple Blossom Masque

When I first tried this deep conditionerI was surprised and excited because my hair felt like butter! Oh...my...goodness! My hair felt so soft and hydrated.

Plus, I found that I didn’t need to moisturize and seal my hair as often during the week.

This was one of the few times I tried to follow the instructions for a hair product to the tee.

The instructions said to leave it on for 5-10 minutes. It didn’t say anything about covering your head or using heat.

I followed the instructions and left it on for 6 minutes. I didn’t cover my hair and my hair still felt great!

The Not Your Mother's Naturals Matcha Green Tea & Wild Apple Blossom Masque claims to

  • Deliver maximum moisture
  • Revive hair
  • Help restore any dry or damaged strands

Because this deep conditioner only needs to be on for a few minutes for it to start working, I’ve used it as my travel deep conditioner.

If I need to wash my hair when I travel I know I won’t have to sacrifice my deep conditioning and I won’t have to spend a lot of time doing it away from home.

Where to buy

6. Eden BodyWorks Lavender Aloe Anti-Breakage Deep Conditioner

This is a deep conditioner that has a very thick consistency which is great because my hair prefers thick conditioners.

Even though it’s thick it does a good job of absorbing into my hair, especially when I apply heat, leaving my hair feeling soft and hydrated afterward.

This Eden BodyWork deep conditioner claims to

  • Soften strands “to make hair more manageable”
  • Add shine and enhance “the hair’s natural sheen”
  • And Promote “hair growth”

It’s protein-free and does make my hair feel good after using it.

7. TGIN Honey Miracle Hair Mask

I tried this hair mask a few years ago and wasn’t impressed.

I gave it a try because it’s a really popular hair mask and I saw so many relaxed hair influencers raving about it.

When I tried The TGIN Honey Miracle Hair Mask I was having a hair setback. So that could have influenced the results a bit, who really knows?

This TGIN hair mask claims to

  • Be like an instant makeover for dry, damaged, or colored hair
  • Restore life to dry, damaged, or color-treated hair
  • Improve shine, softness, and manageability
  • Lock in moisture and repair damage

Where to buy

8. Mielle Mongongo Oil Hydrating Protein-Free Conditioner

This is another deep conditioner that I tried and didn’t care for. It just didn't impress me.

It’s a popular protein-free deep conditioner which is why I put it on the list. Like the TGIN honey miracle hair mask, I was going through a hair setback that could have impacted my results.

I like other Mielle hair products including some products from the same collection or line so I may give it another try in the future.

This deep conditioner from Mielle claims to

  • Provide intense hydration
  • Restore health and shine
  • Help protect against heat damage

9. Design Essentials Rosemary & Mint Stimulating Super Moisturizing Conditioner

This is one of the few products on this list I haven't tried on my own hair.

I’ve used some other design essentials products before and have really liked them but for some reason haven’t integrated them into my hair regimen. That may be something to think about next time Design Essentials products are on sale.

Anyway, back to this deep conditioner.

It claims to

  • Be Stimulating and Hydrating
  • Purify and restore hair leaving it extremely soft and more manageable
  • Invigorates and soothes the scalp via the peppermint it contains
  • Deliver Moisture and Hydration

This is another deep conditioner that has some protein in the ingredient list.

Where to buy

10. BrioGeo Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask

This is the last deep conditioner on my list and it’s also another one I haven’t used.

I also haven’t used any hair products from this brand before which is why it’s number 10.

I added it to the list because it’s come up a few times in my IG feed and the relaxed hair regimen content I’ve seen.

This hair mask claims to

  • Boost hair strength, shine, and silkiness
  • Improve the long-term health of damaged hair
  • Strengthen damaged hair and helps prevent future damage
  • Restore essential moisture and hydration to dry, brittle, colored, or over-processed hair

This is also a hair mask that has some protein in it so it could be an option if you’re looking for products to help balance moisture and protein.
